Whether a company is adding new equipment, applying new
processes, or simply trying to assess efficiency, Heyl &
Patterson’s testing lab can help determine the best available
technologies and equipment for its operations. The company’s
experienced lab personnel, working in conjunction with its
chemical process engineers and clients, can accurately
produce scalable results. In its pilot-plant testing lab, the
company offers a rotary dryer; a variety of fluid bed dryers
with several bedplate choices including the media fluid bed; a
calciner; screw presses; flash dryers; a multidisc thermal processor; and pug mill testing.
Some of the heat sources available are hot fluids, steam, gas, and electricity. On site, the
company can utilize direct- or indirect-fired choices. Heyl & Patterson also has a variety of
feed options and dust collection choices.

Sweco’s state-of-the-art test facility in Florence, KY, provides a
variety of industrial separation and grinding equipment to meet
every customer’s unique application. From coarse to ultrafine
separation, Sweco has a solution. Sweco offers several types of
screening and grinding equipment in its test lab: Vibro-Energy
round separators offer separations ranging from a 1-in. opening to
635 mesh ( 20 μm); the GyraMax rectangular gyratory sifter screens
medium (100–120 mesh) to coarse separations at high rates; Ecutec
Air Classifiers will classify dry powders to 1 μm at rates up to 2 tn
per hour; and Sweco grinding mills are used in small feasibility
tests or full-scale tests to determine rates to meet customer objectives. With more than 150 years of combined technical separation
experience in its lab, Sweco can determine what equipment will best meet clients’ objectives. Customer-witness tests are welcomed and encouraged.

Hapman Conveyors
Conveying tests
Hapman Conveyors tests the conveying ability of
customers’ products in one of its test laboratories at no
charge using up to four conveying methods: flexible
screw, pneumatic, tubular drag, or feeders. These tests
demonstrate the effectiveness of the chosen system for
handling your products. In addition, our tests provide
valuable insight into whether customers need optional
equipment, such as flow aids or engineered adjustments
to enable optimal processing rates. Analysis of material
segregation or degradation, along with bulk bag unloading trials, can also be provided.

Processing-applications testing of dry, free-flowing commodities
The company maintains a complete, up-to-date testing
laboratory for processing applications on all types of dry,
free-flowing commodities. Sample products can be evaluated
based on particle size or weight. Flow-line recommendations
can be made based on the results from the evaluation.
Laboratory-sized and full-size equipment is available. Samples
as small as 1 lb. or as large as several hundred pounds can be
worked with. The testing lab is also used as a training site.
With appropriate samples, the company can provide operator
training for production machines. Full-scale flows can be simulated and processed in
a continuous-flow condition. Common operator errors can be simulated in a classroom
atmosphere. Solutions can be demonstrated and applied to the real-life application. Lab
work and training sessions are available at no charge. Companies can call Oliver if they
have a separation requirement for their products.
